When should you consider applying for a Visa Extension?

Your planning should start about three days prior as there will be additional days added on your current stamp on top of the day you visit the immigration office.

Remember that you must apply for a visa extension BEFORE your Visa has expired.

The Process of Visa Extension:

You need to keep in mind that it may take at least 1-2 hours to complete your visa extension process. We suggest you visit us at the Chiang Mai Visa Shop if any assistance is required in making the application.

We recommend, where possible, you visit the Chiang Mai Immigration Office on days other than Mondays and Fridays and early morning to ensure your process is looked into promptly as these two days are usually extremely busy.

If you have presented immigration with the correct and adequate documents, you will be asked to sit and wait for 10-15 minutes, and after this interval, you will be called to be issued an extension of stay. The time you are requesting to extend your Visa has no impact on the time it would take to extend it; therefore, we advise our clients to extend their Visa for 30-days when possible.

The Supporting documents you will require for the extension of stay:

You must attend in person to the immigration department office and present correct documentation for the visa extension.

A filled out and signed TM.7 – Extension of Temporary Stay form. Make sure you know the full address of where you will be staying at, as you will be required to include that on your application form.

Required Documents:

Your passport, including all the copies of your information page

Your Visa

Original entry stamp

TM.6 Departure Card.

One recent passport-sized photo with white background

All copies are required to be signed and dated, and a Contact Telephone Number should be added.

The fee for the extension immigration visa is THB1,900. The process for the application generally takes a few hours once your number has been allocated, along with all other correct documentation. One other term for extending the Visa is called an “extension of stay,” and you will receive another stamp in your passport.

Now obviously, just like any other visa requirements, you need to retain your Departure Card along with your passport. This will be required at the time of your international flight when leaving Thailand.

Non-Immigrant Visas Extensions:

A Thai Retirement Visa (O-A), a Dependent Visa, or a Work Visa (B) are extended for just 12 months.

Each Non-immigrant Visas have their criteria regarding extensions, and you can find detailed required documentation on our website in visa section dropdown menu.

There is a requirement to submit the documentation. Therefore, we offer our assistance if required in preparing and submitting documentation.
