A Certificate of Residency is a document issuied by an immigration office in Thailand to certify where a foreigner lives. This document can be used for many things: getting a Thai driver’s license buying a car, getting a bank account amoungst other needs.

Various Embassies in Thailand can also require that document to show that you live in Thailand however well cost more than most immigration offices.

Foreign Nationals can also use in some cases a Yellow House Registration Book to prove their Home Residency Status here in Thailand if they are in possession of this book.

Required Documents

To apply for a Residence Certificate , you will require the following documents:

1. Your passport (as proof of ID)
2. A copy of your passport’s photo page
3. A copy of the last entry stamp from your passport
4. Copy of your visa (if applicable)
5. A copy of your TM6 Departure Card
6. A copy of your TM 30 Slip
7. 1 passport-size photos: 4cm x 6cm

Getting a Certificate of Residency in Chiang Mai

If you live in Chiang Mai, you can get a Residence Certificate from the immigration office located near the Chiang Mai International Airport.

When signing the copies of the above documents, you will need to use blue ink for them to be recognised as copies.

You can apply between 8.30am and 12am, Monday through Friday.

The Chiang Mai Immigration Office offers different types of services when providing a Certificate of Residency. Different options are available slow to express service.

The certificate is valid for 30 days. After that, it expires and you will need to get an new Residency Certificate for your required service.
