If you overstay your Visa in Thailand due to any reason, you need to pay a daily set fine. The fine is 500Baht per day with a maximum of 20,000Baht fine payable at the airport on your departure. You can also expect to get interviewed by the immigration office about your overstay.
Thailand visa overstay is undoubtedly costly. If your overstay extends to weeks or months without any justified excuse, the Thai immigration department will stamp with a large “Red” stamp in your passport as overstayed. Immigration departments of other countries will easily view this every time you present your passport to any immigration checkpoint in the world.
Visa overstay doesn’t look good on your record. But if you’ve got a plausible reason for overstay and enough money to pay for the fine, then you’ll be allowed to board your plane.
Overstay is not a big problem for a small duration, but the immigration department will request payment for the days of overstay.
Health problems can occur in a foreign country and can lead foreigners to have an overstay problem due to hospitalization or some kind of sickness. But the Thai immigration office is slightly lenient in this case.
If you have valid proof of your sickness from a hospital or a letter from a doctor, it may help you not get a ban. But still, you’ve to pay the fine for overstay.
If you cannot fly because of some sickness, there is a procedure to follow. You need a letter from a hospital or a doctor. The letter should be in English or Thai language explaining why you can’t travel.
Attend a Local Immigration Office with this letter and your passport. They may issue you a visa extension for the time you can’t fly back. But don’t overstay because it’ll result in a large overstay bill at the airport. All visa extensions require a fee at immigration office with no exception.
