In recent years, Thailand has introduced several measures to limit and control traffic violations by implementing traffic cameras at specific locations, especially in Chiang Mai. Locations are targeted and have cameras fixed to combat the increasing death toll in Thailand.

Speed Cameras:

Speed cameras are one of the most effective tools in the fight against deaths and injuries from collisions. There are three types of speed camera systems – fixed, mobile, and point to point.

Mobile speed cameras can be located in response to high-risk areas of road trauma, excessive speed complaints, or the identified areas where speeding is an issue to enforce speed limits.

Fixed safety cameras are placed at allocated intersections and can detect both speed and redlight offenses.

Red Light Cameras

Redlight cameras have been operating in Thailand for years now. Such cameras currently operate throughout the whole of Thailand. Many collisions occur at major intersections in metropolitan areas, most of which have traffic signals.

There are currently many redlight cameras operating in Chiang Mai, which can now identify and target non-compliance with wearing helmets. With this new technology, the drivers not wearing helmets can be photographed, and infringement notices are sent to the registered address.

The aim of speed and redlight cameras is to change driving behavior. Since being introduced, road safety cameras have contributed to compliance with wearing helmets.

Vehicle owners usually renew their vehicle license registration without fail. However, many have failed to make payment of their traffic tickets issued by police, but now the Thai police data system has a database of traffic fine through LTD (land transport department).

All and every person with unpaid traffic tickets will not be able to renew their annual vehicle registration.

Vehicle owners must pay all outstanding traffic fines or will be unable to re-register their vehicles and won’t get a new tax registration sticker for their motor vehicle.

There are many types of police that will issue infringements that will affect where the actual payment can be made. In some cases, a local police station can accept payment if the infringement has been issued within their jurisdiction.

Other times, it can be made at a selected traffic police station from where the fine has originated and also can be made at different locations like banks or post offices. However, it’s all dependent on where the issuance of the notice has come from.

In Chiang Mai, now, due to the strict police parking restrictions, if your car is parked illegally and comes under traffic police notice, they will attach a parking boot around your wheel so that the vehicle cannot be moved.

This means you cannot move your car until the traffic police office receives payment. As part of our services, we can advise as to the process of this situation.

If you receive any type of traffic ticket at any time, please do not hesitate to     Contact Us at the Chiang Mai Visa Shop and let us assist you with the traffic infringement.

We have a service fee starting from 250 B to go and make the payment on your behalf, saving you the frustration and time on where to make the payment notice.
