SINGLE/MULTIPLE RE-ENTRY PERMIT

A Re-entry permit allows all Visa holders to leave the country of Thailand for a while to travel to another country and then Re-enter Thailand on the same Visa.

Single Re-entry Permit:

A single Re-entry permit is good for only one journey, and the expiration date will be the expiration date of your latest extension of stay. Upon arrival, Thai Immigration will stamp the permit as “USED” to show it is no longer valid. For the next trip, you must obtain a new Single Re-entry permit before leaving again.

Multiple Re-entry Permit:

If you frequently travel, the best option and a time saver will be to obtain a multiple Re-entry Permit. It allows you up to 4 exits and will save you numerous trips to your immigration office applying for permits.

Please Be Advised:

You will have to fill in your new Arrival/Departure card when you return to Thailand. However, your Re-entry permit will maintain your current visa number.

The purpose of a re-entry permit is to protect your visa, so after you depart from Thailand, your visa will remain the same, and it won’t be canceled.

There are two formats of Thai re-entry permit:

  1. Single entry permit priced at 1000 baht, and with it, you can travel one time.
  2. Multiple entry permits you to move in and out of Thailand for four 4 trips. The cost of a multiple-entry permit is 3,800 baht.

Each time you return to Thailand, you must furnish a TM 30 report to your local Immigration office.

The TM8 form includes both choices of re-entry permits. Basically, you sign on the form for the number of entries that are required.

While applying for the re-entry permit at the Thai Immigration office, you must have the following documents:

  • Passport
  • Passport copy along with visa page, detail page, and a photocopy of white TM6 card.
  • 1 photograph (passport size)
  • TM8 Application form

The Immigration Officer will usually process the application in a few minutes, depending on the number of people waiting for re-entry permits.

You actually must go in person, and during this process, the Immigration Officer will take your photograph.

You can get a re-entry permit at most international airports in Thailand, including the Chiang Mai International airport.

If the Immigration desk that issues the re-entry permit is not open at the airport due to any problem, you may not be able to obtain a re-entry permit. We suggest that you always get a re-entry permit at your local Immigration office before your departure.

When you return to Thailand and don’t have a re-entry permit, the Thai Immigration Officer will ignore your extended visa and stamp your visa. It means you will have to start the process of obtaining a new visa from scratch.

If you have a 1-year visa and aim to leave Thailand, it is recommended to get a re-entry permit in advance of traveling when you have an emergency or want to leave quickly.

TM8 is the re-entry form required at Thai Immigration, and you can easily download it before arriving at the Immigration office.
